Fall 1991, tea traders Mathias Kloth and Axel Köhnken decide to go their own way. The former colleagues and friends become entrepreneurs. On January 1 1992 they launch their very own business: Kloth & Köhnken Teehandel GmbH.

From its humble beginnings until today, the company’s purpose did not change: to supply the marketplace and end-consumers with fine tea. Among buyers and sellers, word spreads quickly: Kloth & Köhnken stands for high quality and fair business practices.

The early years of the company are marked by close relationships with partners in countries of origin as well as an early commitment to organically farmed tea. Until today, both are essential to the Kloth & Köhnken culture.
